One of the Biggest Mistakes We Make

Updated: Mar 29, 2022

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus. Romans 3:23-24

Only God is Good

One of the biggest mistakes we make is thinking God is like us. Often times we form God into a god of our own imagination; a god who we are comfortable with; a god who doesn’t punish sin or send people to hell; a god who is all love, leaving no room for His justice or His sovereignty, cheapening His love.

And many out there think we can earn our salvation through our own “good works” by believing that we are actually good, based on our own personal standards and definitions of what we believe good to be. And also by being self-righteous and comparing ourselves to others whom we think are not as "good" as we are - which gives us a false sense of being good ourselves through our own relative truths. On the other side, we will not be judged based upon our own standards or the world's standards, but by the standards of the Holy God of the universe.

The real truth is there has only been one good person in this world, and that is the person of Jesus Christ. We all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We first must recognize that we are all sinners. We are depraved, fallen, and utterly dependent on God; whether we like that or not, and whether we are able to humble ourselves to that truth or not. Although we’d like to think so for the sake of pride, mankind does not possess some high value of dignity, esteem, or righteousness through our own human merit or achievement. There’s not one single one of us who does. And even if we did, it could never come close to the standard of that which is the Holy God of the universe. Even our most noble gestures and our most righteous acts are filthy rags to God. (Isaiah 64:6.) - which brings me to my second point:

God is holy, meaning He's set apart from us. Furthermore, Holy means that He’s perfectly moral, perfectly righteous, perfectly just, perfectly good. There’s not a tiny blemish nor a stitch of evil anywhere in God. His purity and perfection go way beyond what we could ever begin to grasp. If we don’t first understand this tremendous gap and incomprehensible gulf between man and God, we don’t understand the gospel of Jesus Christ and why it is such tremendously good news to us.

The Truth Offends, But The Truth Saves

The gospel is the only thing that saves, so we must get the gospel right. The Truth is offensive, but it's the only thing that saves, and unfortunately far too many are blinded by the god of this world (Satan). I am not popular by any means by proclaiming the Gospel Truth of Jesus Christ. In fact, I’m likely hated for it, but I'm not trying to be liked by the world. I care about people's souls. The thing is, I believe whole-heartedly in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I am driven to share the Truth with as many people as I can in this short life - because it is God's will for all Christians and because I love people. I have sincere concern and sadness for people who don't know that they don't know. The thing is, if you love people, you warn them when they’re inside a burning building - while they still have the opportunity to get out.

I encourage you to open the Bible for yourself (and by the grace of God) come to the full knowledge and Truth of the real God of the universe while you still can in this life. Life is short, but eternity - that's for a very long time. It is only reasonable that this short life be lived in the light of eternity.

The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21

I highly encourage you to check out this trailer to learn who God is: American Gospel: Christ Crucified. It's an excellent documentary and very well done.

as it is written: None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one. Romans 3:10-12

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Isaiah 55:6

They are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. Romans 10:2-3
